There are too many successful stories in [+SM]Art training. The image on left is the final homework of Entry Level Portrait class in Winter 2021.  After 10 weeks totally 30 hours training, these zero-experienced adults are able to draw portraits at very high accuracy. They have used science rather than feelings to control shapes efficiently. A testimonial of how [+SM]Art works for average people.

Since 2012, Dr. Xu has been presenting [+SM]Art at San Diego Comic-Con International for 10 consecutive years.  He introduced his new theory and method from different point of view as well as training results for both adults and kids, aging from 11-84.

Art Institutes adopted Dr. Xu's book as the textbook

Picture
Dr. Xu's book "Drawing in the Digital Age: an Observational Method for Artists and Animators" has been adopted by Art Institutes for their "Life Drawing & Gesture" courses.

The book covers some basic but very efficient approaches to handle graphic structures. Unlike traditional methods, the new method uses angles rather than distances to control ALL spatial freedoms. That simple trick dramatically increases both drawing accuracy and speed, therefore, extremely useful for life drawing and quick-sketching.

What's inside the book?

"Drawing in the Digital Age" is the textbook that details Dr. Wei Xu's Angle-Based Constructive drawing method and its corresponding theories. The book was published by Wiley Publishing in 2012. Currently available in major bookstores and online sites.

The ABC method solved shape-control problem by using traditional geometry principles and modern computer graphics techniques. It allows us (even beginners) to construct shapes much faster with more accuracy. The book was the first one to be published with such approach.  As a result, the book was mistakenly categorized as a "computer/software" book in the English version :(

The Chinese version was published in 2014. It is only available in China and Chinese online stores.

The following is feedback from a reader in China.

You don't have to have talent to learn basic drawing skills!  But you do need a scientific method for an efficient learning!  This is a teenager beginner's progress in 4 weeks (8 hrs of training)!

This is a comparison of an adult beginner's drawings before-and-after 9 weeks (18 hours) of training!
